TELL ME ABOUT THE WHISTLES
April 1st, 2009 · 1 Comment
I’ve seen this video about 200 times and it’s still funny. Does this have anything to do with design? Probably not. Really, I just needed to put something up for the month of March. I guess I did the same thing last month. Kinda jank - my b.

STREET FIGHTER IV. I’M BACK BABY!
February 26th, 2009 · No Comments
There was a time when I was the best Street Fighter player on planet earth. I ain’t gonna lie, I used to get my ass kicked when I first started playing, even by dudes with one arm! I mean this guy wasn’t playing me with one arm for the fun of it, he only had one arm! He was freakin’ good. A couple hundred quarters later though, I had that one arm dude mad! In fact I had the whole city mad! Kids used to put their quarters away when I was in the building, and this is supposed to be a game where you challenge the best! But them little suckas knew - I hit em’ with the hadoooken!

MATCH POETRY BOOK
October 11th, 2008 · No Comments
Check out this book of poems shaped like a giant matchbook. Great concept and perfect execution. There’s even wax on the freakin’ tips of the matches and some sandpaper for the striker pad on the back. See more of Eric Constantino’s work here.
RESIDENT EVIL 4. DESIGN TIME BANE.
October 11th, 2008 · 1 Comment
Let me start by saying that I’m not much of a video game player. I don’t even own any of the new video game systems. In fact I played this game on my friend Eric’s Wii. I don’t have a lot of time and so I’m very selective about the video games I play. I generally pick games based on ratings and reviews. On many lists, Resident Evil 4 is rated as a “top ten game of all time“. It’s certainly my all time favorite - and I loved Street Fighter and Golden Eye and God of War and Mario 64.
Ahhhh Resident Evil - Never has a game been so frustrating, so infuriating and yet so damn fun! I discovered something in my being that is deeply satisfied by shooting zombies in the face with large caliber weapons. But it wasn’t just the exploding heads, or the enemies screaming in agony, or the sexy hostage who manages to get herself kidnapped at every turn - this game has a great story line, great puzzles, interesting characters and extensive sub-games just as entertaining as the main game. RE4’s ability to create a pleasurable eustress is ultimately addicting and ultimately time consuming.
For those of you who have played this game, check out my weapons cache pictured above and become green with envy. Bravo to those who have managed to acquire a stash of gats like mine. You know the time it takes to get your weapons screen to look like this. Getting the .50 Handcannon is arguably the most difficult feat in the video game world. I won’t expand on that - just take my word for it - better yet, try it for yourself. But be forewarned - I played RE4 for over 100 hours and enjoyed every minute of it. Now I know my blog has a limited audience, but for those of you who care, I will NEVER take this much time between posts again. Wait… when does Resident Evil 5 come out?

ANDRIO ABERO - CONCEPT IS KING
September 5th, 2008 · No Comments
I have been visiting 33rpm for a few years now, and I knew that If I ever had a blog I would have to post about Andrio. He’s perfected a style that is really unmistakable. But it’s not the style that’s so impressive. It’s the wonderful concepts created with simple, well placed imagery that have such an impact. These works are a small sample from his extensive portfolio. Go check him out, and if you’re lucky you might be able to pick up a limited edition poster.
